Description

Ingka Holding BV is a holding company based in Leiden, Netherlands, that controls 374 stores of the 433 IKEA stores globally - year end 31 August 2019.

Ingka Holding BV (Ingka Group, sometimes referred to as IKEA Group), franchises the IKEA Retail system and methods from Inter IKEA Systems BV, which is located in the Netherlands. Inter IKEA Systems BV is the owner of the IKEA Concept and the worldwide IKEA franchisor.

IKEA is a global home furnishing retailer that was founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad. Today it is one of the world’s largest furniture retailers, and is recognised for its simple and easy to construct Scandinavian style.

To keep manufacturing, storage and transportation costs down, IKEA adopted the flatpack design - which provides all the components necessary within a products packaging, rather than pre-building a product for the customer, as most furniture retailers do. IKEA's retail outlets follow a natural flow path, which is designed to entice you to spend more. The sequence first involves going through the furniture showrooms (everyone can pick-up a free note pad and pencil for making notes of selected items). The customer then collects a shopping cart and proceeds to an open-shelf warehouse for smaller items, then visits the self-service furniture warehouse to collect previously noted showroom products in flat pack form.

IKEA stores also include restaurants and cafes serving Swedish-style food. They have small food shops selling Swedish groceries, including meatballs, jam, coffee, and sweets (candy).

In the year ending 31 August 2018, Ingka Holding BV generated revenue of EUR 39,065 million and a net profit of EUR 1,817 million. In the same year, the company also employed 166,200 people, which it refers to as "co-workers".

Operating Segments:

IKEA's products are not sold pre-assembled, with most of IKEA's furniture is designed to be assembled by the customer. This helps reduce manufacturing and storage costs, as volumetrically, flatpacks take up less space - the volume of a bookcase, for example, is considerably less if it is shipped unassembled rather than assembled.

IKEA's product range includes furniture and home accessories for the bathroom, bedroom, laundry, living room and kitchen. IKEA also stocks outdoor storage solutions, plants, small storage solutions, office furniture, tableware, textiles and rugs, and home electronics (the company has been expanding this segment through partnerships to make smart home devices, likely in an attempt to compete with tech firms entering the space).

Mergers and Acquisitions:

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
