Netflix Inc is a subscription-based streaming service which offers online streaming of films and television programs, including those produced in-house (called Netflix Originals).
Netflix originally started as a mail order DVD store. However, it is said Reed Hastings (co-founder and current CEO) had always envisioned Netflix becoming a streaming platform. However, at the time the company was founded, the internet was too young to achieve this.
An advantage of Netflix is that members can watch as much content as they want, at anytime, and anywhere, and on any internet-connected screen (TV, mobile, laptop, tablet). Members of the subscription service can also play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials.
For the year end 31 December 2019, Netflix reported to have approximately 167.1 million paid subscribers, of which the United States and Canada represented the company's largest market by paid memberships with 67.7 million members, followed by Europe, Middle East, and Africa with 51.8 million paid memberships, Latin America with 31.4 million paid memberships and Asia Pacific with 16.2 million paid memberships.
Netflix also provides a United States (Domestic) DVD-by-mail legacy service. However, the amount of revenue this segment generates has continually declined over the last few years - For the year end 31 December 2019, revenues for DVD-by-mail declined to USD 297.2 million from USD 365.6 million in 2018, which was down from USD 450.5 million in 2017.
Netflix Inc trades on the NASDAQ under the code NFLX.
International streaming - The international streaming segment derives revenues from monthly membership fees for services related to streaming content to members outside of the United States. For the year ending 31 December 2019, the international streaming segment accounted for 52.67% (USD 10,616.2 million) of revenue.
Domestic streaming - The domestic streaming segment derives revenues from monthly membership fees for services related to streaming content to members in the United States. For the year ending 31 December 2019, the domestic streaming segment accounted for 45.86% (USD 9,243.0 million) of revenue.
Domestic DVD - The domestic DVD segment derives revenues from monthly membership fees for services consisting solely of DVD-by-mail in the United States. For the year ending 31 December 2019, the domestic DVD segment accounted for 1.47% (USD 297.2 million) of revenue.
Note: Historically, Netflix Inc has reported three segments: Domestic streaming, International streaming and Domestic DVD. However, effective in the fourth quarter of 2019, the company transitioned to a single operating segment.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
