Description

Temasek Holdings Private Limited (Temasek) is a Singaporean holding company that is owned by the Government of Singapore. Temasek was incorporated on June 25, 1974 as a commercial investment company. As such, Temasek owns and manages a net portfolio of SGD313 billion (as of 31 March 2019), with SGD28 billion divested and SGD24 billion invested during the year. Temasek's portfolio of investments has 66% exposure to Asia – 26% Singapore and 40% Asia excluding-Singapore.

Temasek is an active shareholder and investor, and its investments are guided by four key themes – transforming economies, growing middle income populations, deepening comparative advantages and emerging champions. Its portfolio covers a broad spectrum of sectors including financial services, telecommunications, media and technology, transportation and industrials, life sciences and agribusiness, consumer and real estate, energy and resources, as well as multi-sector funds.

Temasek is headquartered in Singapore, and has a team of 800 people, in 11 global offices. Office locations include: two in Beijing, and one office in each of Shanghai, Mumbai, Hanoi, London, New York, San Francisco, Mexico City, Washington, D.C., and Sao Paulo.

Temasek is not a publicly traded company, however, some of its subsidiaryies, such as Olam International Limited and Singtel are traded on the Singapore Exchange (SGX).

Operating Segments:

Temasek Holdings acts as an investment fund (sovereign wealth fund) for the Government of Singapore. In this capacity, Temasek does not provide any products or services, other than investing activities.

Also note: The financials of associates, such as DBS, Keppel Corporation, CapitaLand, etc, are not consolidated in the group financials. In other words, the revenues and expenses of associates are not included in the Temasek consolidated group financials. Instead, Temasek's proportionate share of the profits/losses of these associates are taken into the group profits in accordance with equity accounting principles.
